Why this rule decides your schedule
VDE-AR-N 4110 governs every storage plant connecting at medium voltage in Germany. Unlike markets where compliance is reviewed after energization, German DSOs require unit certificates before the connection agreement is signed — meaning your PCS choice fixes your certification timeline before civil works even start.
For 2026 projects the practical question is no longer “is the PCS certified?” but “is the certificate current against the grid-forming amendment?” — re-certification waves have caught several vendors mid-pipeline.
A missing or outdated unit certificate adds 4–7 months to a German interconnection. It is the single most common storage project delay we see in DACH tenders.
The certificates, in order
Three documents matter, and they build on each other:
- Unit certificate (Einheitenzertifikat) — issued per PCS model against FGW TR3 measurements.
- Component certificate — covers the protection interface (NA-Schutz).
- Plant certificate (Anlagenzertifikat) — project-specific, assembled by an accredited body from the two above plus your single-line design.
